Problems with Cyrillics references (sorting and WorldCat)

Postby DrAlex » 2013-05-30 18:18

H!
1. The "sort" of categories in "knowledge" does not work (probably because my references are the Cyrillics);

Are there any plans to expand the sort function, make it more flexible and faster?

2. WorldCat (menu “on-line search”): all references of the Cyrillic there are transliterated (in English), although on the site, they are in the Cyrillic; (in other database it's all right)

Hi DrAlex,

Thanks for alerting us to these bugs! Could you possibly send us your project so that we can try and reproduce the error? Could you please also send a screenshot showing how the sort order currently is and what it should be instead? This will be very helpful for our developers who do not read Cyrillic. Please use our secure upload service to send the files (www.citavi.com/transfer) and please include the URL of this forum post in the subject line.

For the second problem, could you please send us the link to a book in WorldCat whose title was transliterated into English after importing it into Citavi?

Thanks so much for your help!

Best regards,
Jennifer

Hi, Jennifer.

1. I sent the file.

Could you please also send a screenshot showing how the sort order currently is and what it should be instead?

oh no, it will take a lot of time. Here Russian alphabet (wiki).

2. For exemple, imported reference in Citavi:

Ḟeofan ; Kaplina, A. D. ; Platonov, Oleg: Dobrotoli︠u︡bie — Moskva : In-t russkoĭ t︠s︡ivilizat︠s︡ii, 2012.

actually on the WorldCat:
Ѳеофан, Саинт, Бишоп оф Тамбов анд Шатск, 1815-1894. Святитель Феофан Затворник ; [сост., притеч., имен. указ. А.Д. Каплина ; отв. ред. О.А. Платонов]. Каплина, А. Д. Платонов, Олег.

I think that the program imports data from other custom (transliterated) fields.

How about this problem? During this time, the program in general stopped to look at a Russian on WorldCat.

Hi DrAlex,

Thanks for checking in with us about these issues. Citavi unfortunately has no way of influencing how WorldCat records are imported; you would need to contact WorldCat to see if the way in which these records are exported could be changed.

The problem with the sorting of categories in Cyrillic has unfortunately not yet been fixed, since we have not been able to reproduce the problem. It would be helpful for us to have a test project with the incorrect sorting in addition to a list of how the references should be sorted, since none of our developers read Cyrillic. Even with a test project and list, we probably still will not be able to solve this issue very quickly, though.

My apologies for the disappointing news!

Best regards,
Jennifer
