Postby Peter Meurer » 2013-03-22 07:56

We're very excited to share the release of Citavi 4 BETA. We thank all of the users who gave us their feedback on the previews. We couldn't have done this without you!

Before installing Citavi 4 Beta please note the following:
  1. Citavi 4 Beta can be installed under the 32- or 64-bit versions of Windows 8, Windows 7 or Windows Vista. Windows XP is not supported since Citavi 4 uses the most recent version of the .NET Framework, .NET 4.5. This .NET version is not being offered by Windows for Windows XP. Please also see Microsoft's information on the end of support for Window XP.
  2. If you want to continue to work with Citavi 3 and need the Pickers, please deactivate the Citavi 4 Pickers when installing Citavi 4. During installation select Advanced setup and, on the drop-down menu click the corresponding icon. Choose: Not available.
  3. If you previously installed Citavi 4 Preview 1 or Citavi 4 Preview 2 on your computer, uninstall the preview version using the Windows control panel before installing Citavi 4 Beta.
  4. If you previously installed Citavi 4 Preview 3 on your computer, it is not necessary to uninstall the preview version. However, while installing Citavi 4, please select the option Advanced Setup.
  5. The beta version does not include an option for installing Citavi on a USB flash drive.
  6. You are installing a beta version. Although this version has been thoroughly tested, it will likely still contain errors. Please use this version for testing purposes only. Please let us know about errors in this forum or send us error messages you receive. We will be releasing updated versions at least once a week in order to correct errors you’ve reported. Update notifications will be displayed in Citavi.

New Features and Changes in Citavi 4 Beta

Citavi Add-In for Microsoft Word
Insert your references in Word exactly as prescribed by your selected citation style. The bibliography is updated in real time with every added or deleted citation. Word documents that were created with the Publication Assistant in Citavi 3 can be converted so that you are able to use the new features.

Picker for Google Chrome
Automatically add books by ISBN number and articles by DOI address. Add webpages to your project. Add text and images from the web as quotations.

Support for higher resolution display settings
If you use Windows with 120 DPI or 125% resolution (or higher), the user interface in Citavi will change accordingly.

Search and replace
Search and replace is now available for text fields.

Gender recognition of authors’ first names
Citavi determines the gender of an author using the first name so that certain citation style requirements can be met (ders./dies. in German styles; id./ead./eid./eaed.). An active internet connection is required.

Insertion of names in reverse order using the Clipboard
When using the Clipboard to insert names, names are automatically reversed if necessary. For example, "Michael Smith und John Loffler" are changed to "Smith, Michael; Loffler, John"

Renaming of linked files
In addition to Citavi’s automatic file renaming feature, manual renaming of files is also possible from within Citavi.

New filter options
You can now only show references with n stars or only show references that do not have a linked file.

Easier selection from existing categories
In Citavi 3 the Category field was read-only; to enter new categories the Category form had to be opened. In Citavi 4 categories can be typed directly into the Category field.

Efficient editing of knowledge items
Knowledge items can now be edited in-line by double-clicking. The knowledge item editing window can still be used if desired.

Sorting of knowledge iems
In the Knowledge Organizer, knowledge items can be automatically sorted according to various criteria.

Indirect quotations can be automatically inserted with “cf.” or “see also”
The Citation Style Editor now offers the option to automatically define prefixes and suffixes so that indirect quotations can be entered wtih “cf.” or “see also.”

Many additional options in the Citation Style Editor
Additional conditions, the option to combine custom conditions with those in Citavi, programmable components, programmable sort-orders for bibliographies, and additional settings for page ranges and places of publication are now available making it possible to fulfill the requirements of highly complex citation styles.

Citavi 4 is also available in Spanish und Portuguese.

System-adminstator friendly
Citavi 4 now uses the widely-used and robust InstallShield for the installation process.

This version is no longer available.
