Citavi 5 Preview 2 [Archive]

Postby Jennifer Schultz » 2015-01-22 14:43

This preview is an early version to show new features as they are being developed, still early enough in the process to consider feedback regarding look and feel, but potentially with significant bugs. For this reason, preview versions should never be used with important data. Projects created with a preview version may not be compatible with later preview, beta, or release versions if there are changes to data format.

We’re excited to share the second preview release of Citavi 5 with you! Preview 2 showcases the following features:

  1. Saved Searches
In Citavi 5 it's easier than ever to work with a large number or references or knowledge items:
    • Save searches for references and knowledge items in the Search dialog.
    • View saved searches in the fourth column, just as you're used to doing with keywords and categories.
  2. Filter for Knowledge Items
You can now filter knowledge items in the Knowledge Organizer just like you can in the Reference Editor. This lets you work more easily with a selection of your knowledge items.

  3. Improved Navigation
    • The commands for changing the program layout can now be reached directly. This makes it easier to quickly switch between different layouts.
    • The commands to display and hide the keywords, categories, and saved searches columns have been redesigned.
    • The navigation pane and the table view now display paperclip icons if a reference has a local file attached.
  4. Citation Styles
We've integrated several conditions for the formatting of references and bibliographies that previously needed to be added manually using the macro editor. This makes it easier to use some popular conditions.

  5. PDF Documents
Many thanks for all of your feedback regarding the new PDF features in Preview 1! As a result we've made the following changes:
    • The tools for creating knowledge items are now only displayed if text or another area in the PDF file is selected.
    • We've renamed the new knowledge item "quick reference" as "red highlight" and changed the functionality to more closely resemble that of the yellow highlighter.
    • The column displaying the results of a search within the full text of a PDF file has been widened and the results are now hyphenated so that users no longer have to scroll horizontally.
    • Citavi now remembers the position you were last at in a PDF file so that you can pick up right where you left off, even after closing and opening Citavi.
Please share your experiences with us: What did you like? What would you like changed? Did you run into problems?
