Citations inside parentheses losing their own parentheses

Postby skittle » 2012-12-31 10:30

System information: [ -, -, -, -, -, - ]

Hi,

The title sums it up, but in more depth: there seems to be a bug (?) / problem when putting citations which involve parentheses inside other parentheses. The citations then come out without any parentheses.

For example, the following:

(See {Vihvelin 2000 #2718}, and for a similar account {Fara 2008 #829})

comes out as:

(See Vihvelin 2000, and for a similar account Fara 2008)

whereas I'd expect is this

(See (Vihvelin 2000), and for a similar account (Fara 2008))

If I take that sentence outside of the parentheses, then I get the following:

See (Vihvelin 2000), and for a similar account (Fara 2008).

Using Citavi 3.3.3.

Hello Simon

Please set the parentheses in the following way:

(See ({Vihvelin 2000 #2718}), and for a similar account ({Fara 2008 #829}))

Kind regards,
Peter

Okay, thanks for the work around.

Do you know if this will be fixed at some point? I imagine sooner or later I'll forget to add/remove these extra parentheses when adding and removing the wide-scope parentheses (not to mention that it's a bit inconvenient).

Thanks

Hi Simon,

Thanks for your follow-up question! With the coming Add-In for Word this won't be an issue any longer.

Just as a side note for other users, it appears that usage varies in the UK and the US. The Oxford Style Manual specifies that double parentheses should be used (as in the example above), while the Chicago Manual of Style calls for brackets within parentheses.

Best regards,
Jennifer
