APA style 6th ed

Postby Marinko » 2015-03-27 17:46

Auf Seite 192 heisst es: »Do not include retrieval dates unless the source material may change over time (e.g., Wikis).«*

Dear Citavi Team,

I mentioned this problem before - when adding "Original publication" date it appears always doubled in quotation, e.g. (1878/1878), thus the date of my reference edition is missing.

APA 6th ed. of course.

Piotr

Hi Piotr,

Thanks for your question! The field Original publication is designed to be used if you are citing a work that was reprinted. So, you would normally enter the earlier year of original publication in this field and the year the work was republished in the Year field.

When I do this, I get the expected result, for example: "(Williamson, 1968/2009)". You should only see the year doubled if you entered the exact same year in the Year field and the Original publication field.

Best regards,
Jennifer

Dear Jannifer,

In my work it appears (1854/1854).
One example:

Contribution
Thoreau, H. D. (1854). Walden; or Life in the Woods. In R. F. Sayre (Ed.), The Library of America Series: Vol. 28. A Week, Walden, The Maine Woods, Cape Cod (6th ed., pp. 321–587). New York: The Library of America (Original work published 1854).

The 1985 of parent reference should appear.

Parent reference
Sayre, R. F. (Ed.). (1985). The Library of America Series: Vol. 28. A Week, Walden, The Maine Woods, Cape Cod. New York: The Library of America.

Another example:
Smith, A. (1776). The Wealth of Nations: Digireads.com (Original work published 1776). Retrieved from http://books.google.pl/books?id=rBiqT86BGQEC

The 2004 date is missing

Piotr

Dear Piotr,

Thanks for the examples! Would you please open Tools > Options > Formatting and check if the Year derived includes Original publication checkbox is selected? If so, please clear the checkbox and click OK. After that you should see the publication date of the parent reference.

Best regards,
Jennifer

Dear Jennifer and Stuff,

It seems to me that today morning the problem was still there (that's why I entered Citavi forum), but right now I just noticed two different dates appeared. Never mind - now it looks ok, e.g.:
(Thoreau, 1854/1985, p. 352)
(Dort, 1996/2016a, 1996/2016b)

I will contact you if I find quotation with duplicated date.

Thank you for your help,
Piotr
