citing the same author in succession within a footnote

Hi there,

I'm using the SBL2 style (with a few tinkerings of my own). Although the handbook itself isn't clear, they've now said that when a footnote has multiple successive citations from the same author in a footnote, we shouldn't use idem., but rather only the author's last name. Like so:

Matthew Thiessen, “Paul’s Argument Against Gentile Circumcision in Romans 2:17–29,” NovT 56 (2014): 373–91, doi:10.1163/15685365-12341488; Thiessen, Paul and the Gentile Problem (New York: Oxford University Press, 2016), 43–58.

Is there any way to automate this? Or is using option flags the best way to go?

many thanks

Hi mnaah,

Thank you for your inquiry.

You can add an additional template that applies in this specific condition. In this case, you would select the Consecutive citation (same author/editor/organization) condition (screenshot), and configure it to your liking.

For a detailed step by step guide, please see our manual:

Kind regards,
Damien
